E Ulu A Paʻa
Bishop Museum 2021 Fundraiser
August 19–29, 2021
Each year, Bishop Museum brings our community together to support the Museum’s mission with an annual fundraiser.
This summer, we encouraged our community to come together to celebrate and support the future initiatives of Bishop Museum and our shared kuleana to preserve and perpetuate our collective knowledge and wisdom which connects our island communities.
On behalf of Bishop Museum’s staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers, mahalo piha for all those who participated in E Ulu A Pa‘a. We successfully raised critical funds to ensure the Museum can continue to protect, preserve, and perpetuate the rich cultural and natural heritage of Hawai’i and the Pacific today and for generations to come.
A big mahalo goes out to all the talented designers, artists and cultural practitioners who donated their items to the auction which allowed us to host over 200 locally made and curated experiences, vacation packages, one-of-a-kind pieces of art and hand-crafted materials.
And a special thanks goes out to Mark “Devour” Visaya, featured local artist who created the piece, “Unity” specifically for this year’s event.

Artist Collaboration: Mark “Devour” Visaya
To further uplift our community connections and celebrate our talented local artists, this year we partnered with Oʻahu based artist, Mark “Devour” Visaya.
Mark created the piece titled “Unity” specifically for 2021. As Mark explains, “The inspiration for this piece was to convey the feeling of dedication and strength that communities express through difficult times and how by working together we can overcome any obstacle.” A physical piece of this design will be included in the auction items and the unification of the design spread across our event collateral.
Mark Visaya is an illustrator, muralist, designer, and paint pusher from Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. Mark’s work originates from his childhood as a graffiti artist, and he continues to incorporate the lessons he learned into his current work to produce unique pieces of art. Gaining inspiration from his environment, different cultures, and communities, Mark continues to twist and bend the norm, which is reflected in his current interest in abstract and modern art.
Mark was one of the many featured local artists in the POW!WOW! The First Decade: From Hawai‘i to the World exhibition displayed at Bishop Museum May 15, 2021 – September 19, 2021.

Proceeds from the Bishop Museum 2021 Online Auction Fundraiser make it possible for Bishop Museum to preserve, protect, and perpetuate the rich cultural and natural legacy of our Islands today and for generations to come.
Each summer for the past 21 years, Bishop Museum has brought together the community in support of the Museum’s mission. With the safety and health of our ‘ohana, guests and partners in mind we recently made the decision to postpone our Annual Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum Dinner until 2021. This August, we instead invite you to join us on our digital platforms for our first online fundraiser.
Save the date for this weeklong online fundraiser and auction as we celebrate the stories and the people that contribute to our continued growth—E Ulu A Pa‘a—as we once again bring our community together to ensure that the Museum continues to grow and thrive as a primary resource of Hawai‘i and the Pacific, and as one of the great museums of the world.
Our Auction will highlight a wide array of Hawaiian and Pacific artwork and hand-crafted materials as well as, Bishop museum one of a kind experiences and excursions.
