Bishop Museum Invites Local ‘Ohana and Visitors
to a
Concert Under the Stars on Its Great Lawn
Mele After Hours returns to its campus on Friday, Aug. 14 and features multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winners as well as Hālau Hiʻiakaināmakalehua.
Honolulu, Hawaiʻi — Bishop Museum, the State of Hawai‘i Museum of Natural and Cultural History, presents Mele After Hours, a concert under the stars on Friday, Aug. 14 from 5-9 p.m. on its Great Lawn.
This special evening will celebrate the richness of Hawaiʻi’s musical heritage and feature multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-winning performers. The outstanding lineup includes ʻUheʻuhene, known for their joyful island-style blend of traditional Hawaiian music and local favorites; Ei Nei, an award-winning trio celebrated for their rich harmonies and fresh approach to Hawaiian music; and Kalaʻe and Kalena Parish, the acclaimed husband-and-wife duo whose award-winning performances seamlessly combine Hawaiian tradition, original songwriting, and contemporary country influences.
The evening also features legendary island band Kapena, whose signature sound and decades-long career have made them one of Hawaiʻi’s most beloved musical groups, along with the beautiful hula of Hālau Hiʻiakaināmakalehua, whose talented dancers uplift Hawaiian culture, language, and tradition through their artistry. Beloved local personality Mele Apana returns as host, guiding the evening’s festivities with her signature warmth, humor, and aloha.
“Bishop Museum exists to preserve and perpetuate the history, culture, and natural history of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific, but just as important is creating opportunities for people to experience that history together,” said Brandon Bunag, Ed.D., Bishop Museum vice president of public programs and interim director of education. “Mele After Hours brings our community onto the Museum campus to enjoy incredible local artists while celebrating the traditions, stories, and connections that continue to shape Hawaiʻi.”
Bishop Museum’s galleries will remain open until 7 p.m., and food and beverages will be available for purchase from local vendors. No coolers. Lawn chairs and mats okay. Tickets are $20 for adults, with free admission for children 13 and under; Bishop Museum Members enjoy a discounted rate of $15.
