Hosted by Shangri La and supported by Doris Duke Foundation, Wehiwehi serves as a laboratory for Native Hawaiian contemporary performing artists to build community, assess existing ways of creating, and pilot new methodologies at the crossroads of cultural preservation, contemporary performance, traditional indigenous technologies, and digital production and performance technologies.
Join us for this special showcase of performances by this year’s Wehiwehi cohort artists, followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion that will delve into the challenges faced by working Kanaka artists and celebrate the triumphs found through Indigenous expression.
Wehiwehi is an initiative in alignment with Doris Duke Foundation’s Creative Labor, Creative Conditions, a national campaign bringing together coordinated activations across the U.S. to center artists in a national conversation about the future of artistic labor.
