Enjoy “the best of both worlds” with our hybrid star machine and immersive full dome video planetarium system. The J. Watumull Planetarium offers an intriguing view of the night sky recreated in unparalleled accuracy and beauty from our state-of-the-art Chronos II star projector which projects 7,000 pin-point stars and brilliant planets. The Digistar full-dome video system will take you through the rings of Saturn or into the heart of the Orion Nebula.Following the program at 9:00 p.m., pending clear skies and weather permitting, find constellations and planets from the viewing deck above the planetarium and visit the Bishop Museum observatory to peer through our telescope, which has a 12.5 inch diameter mirror.

Please note – both the observatory and viewing deck experiences depend on weather.

Other Details:
– There is no late seating, please arrive by 7:45 p.m.
– Show length is 1 hour
– The planetarium is fairly cool, may want to bring a light sweater
– We ask parents to consider whether their child can sit through an hour-long planetarium program. If your child is crying or restless during the program please be considerate of others and exit the theater.
– The Stars Tonight evening program is different than the Museum’s daily planetarium programs and The Sky Tonight matinee program.
