Our Introductory Experience PLUS option allows you to select 30 minutes of self-guided group time in our Castle Memorial Building which houses traveling exhibits. Choosing our Castle Memorial Building Traveling Exhibit costs $1 per student. Please look below to see which exhibit your class will be able to encounter during your field trip to Bishop Museum!

 

Traveling Exhibits for 2017-2018 Field Trips

Biomechanics (February 25, 2017 – September 4, 2017)

Shrimp that can break through glass? Spider webs that are stronger than steel? Sharks that use their snouts to sense the electrical impulses of their prey? The world’s largest and most complete T. rex? Find out why every living thing—including humans—is a machine built to survive, move, and discover, and explore the ways in which these marvels of natural engineering have inspired ingenious man-made mechanisms.

Come witness how evolution is Earth’s greatest inventor in The Machine Inside: Biomechanics, only at Bishop Museum!

During this 30 minute self-guided group time explore real specimens, lifelike models, amazing video footage, and interactive displays that help you experience how living creatures cope with the never-ending race to remain alive. You’ll be shocked by the surprising supply of pumps, pipes, insulation, motors, springs, and intelligence-gathering devices with which each organism is equipped.

This exhibit is only available for field trips between February 25, 2017 and September 4, 2017!

 

The Animation Academy (October 7, 2017 – January 14, 2017)

The Animation Academy explores the unique world of animation, from traditional hand-drawn cells to exciting breakthroughs in stop-motion and CGI. Students will be able to create their own stop-motion animated short, learn about the art of storyboarding, go behind the scenes with artists and animators, and enjoy America’s largest 3D zoetrope.

During this 30 minute self-guided group time your class will explore the world of animation, from traditional hand-drawn cells to exciting breakthroughs in stop-motion and CGI. Students will have the ability to create their own stop-motion animated short, learn about the art of storyboarding, go behind the scenes with artists and animators, and enjoy America’s largest 3D zoetrope.

This experience is only available for field trips between October 7, 2017 and January 14, 2018!

Expedition: Dinosaur (February 17, 2018 – September 9, 2018)

164 million years in the making, Expedition: Dinosaur combines life-size, lifelike animatronic dinosaurs with realistic movements and sound with fascinating and educational interactive experiences. Students will be taken from the early days of Cope and Marsh’s “Bone Wars” and the pioneering work of Roy Chapman Andrews, to today’s cutting edge technology.

In this 30 minute time period your class will be able to experience an exhibit 164 million years in the making! Expedition: Dinosaur combines life-size, lifelike animatronic dinosaurs with realistic movements and sound with fascinating and educational interactive experiences. Students will be taken from the early days of Cope and Marsh’s “Bone Wars” and the pioneering work of Roy Chapman Andrews, to today’s cutting edge technology.
