Bishop Museum, in partnership with the Sulu’ape Family, is proud to present a day of festivities to mark the closing weekend of the Tatau: Marks of Polynesia exhibition. Join us for traditional tattoo demonstrations from Sāmoa, Tonga, and Hawaiʻi throughout the day. Participate in talks with special guests, join keiki activities, and enjoy cultural food and music on the Great Lawn.
Don’t forget to see the exhibition Tatau: Marks of Polynesia, on view until July 4, 2022. The exhibition explores the beauty of Samoan tattoos as well as the role they play in the preservation and propagation of Samoan culture. Through an array of photographs, Tatau showcases the work of traditional Samoan tattoo masters alongside that of younger practitioners working within and influenced by the tradition today.
