This Zoom presentation by the co-curators will introduce the major themes of the exhibit, the ideas behind it, and the untold stories about its creation. Hear the history of the now-discredited “race science” and its enduring and harmful consequences, which connect to the ways human diversity is researched and popularly understood today. Learn about technologies that help us understand human diversity on the genetic level, and the serious ethical issues that continue to haunt such research. The curators will also discuss the considerable ethical responsibilities in a changing museum and research landscape.

The (Re)Generations Program Series is presented in conjunction with the (Re)Generations: Challenging Scientific Racism in Hawaiʻi exhibition on display in the J.M. Long Gallery from February 20 – October 24, 2021.

The (Re)Generations Program Series is generously supported by McInerny Foundation, Bank of Hawaii, Trustee.

The event is finished.
