Each week a different aspect of fostering health and healing through Native Hawaiian practices will be presented. The various practices address physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being in the healthy balance of life.

Saturday, September 7, 2019 – A Healer in Every Home

For true healing to exist, the focus must not be solely on the patient, but on the entire family unit.

Saturday, September 14, 2019 – Hoʻoponopono: Conflict Resolution

Hoʻoponopono is the process of restoring a state of pono, or balance, to families so they can thrive in all areas of life.

Sunday, September 15, 2019 – Lomilomi: Physical Therapy

Lomilomi aids in the reconstruction of one’s physical being to restore mental and emotional balance.

Saturday, 21, 2019 – Lāʻau Lapaʻau: Herbal Medicine

Lāʻau lapaʻau involves understanding the therapeutic properties of plants and using them to heal the body.

Ka Pā o Lonopūhā is a group of cultural practitioners dedicated to restoring health and well-being in our homes by strengthening the family unit through the healing traditions of our ancestors.

The Living Culture series provides an opportunity for participants to meet Hawaiian cultural practitioners, talk with them about their area of expertise, and see them practicing their skill. Each presentation is free to Museum guests and members.

Preregistration is required for the Living Culture Workshop: ‘Ai Pono, Nutritional Foods on Saturday, September 28, 2019, from 9:00am to Noon. Registration is $25 per person and Bishop Museum members receive 10% off. Please look for the workshop date on the Special Events page to preregister online.

The Bishop Museum Living Culture series and workshops are supported by Hawai‘i Tourism through the Kūkulu Ola Program.
