Hawaii International Film Festival: The Story of Everything

Friday, Nov. 4, 2022
4:30 – 9 pm
Great Lawn

HIFF is excited to partner again with Bishop Museum to present two “Made in Hawai‘i” feature films as outdoor screening celebrations at the historic museum’s signature event venue, the Great Lawn. As the premier exhibitor of international cinema in Hawai‘i and the leading organization dedicated to showcasing Hawai‘i films and filmmakers across the globe, this elevated event is a key part of HIFF’s mission.

On Thursday, Nov. 3, HIFF screens The Wind & The Reckoning, and on Friday, Nov. 4, The Story of Everything. Both screenings will feature pre-show Hawaiian music and entertainment from major acts like Makana and poet laureate Kealoha. Food trucks will also be on site. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy these films under the stars in one of the premiere Hawaiian cultural spaces in Honolulu.

In an era when racism consistently exposes people of color to reduced quality of life, and the world itself is in peril, a project focused on light, on solutions, and on the transmission of hope is a cause for celebration. From Hawai‘i Poet Laureate Kealoha, THE STORY OF EVERYTHING incorporates poetry, dance, music, art and special effects to condense 13.7 billion years into an hour and 45 minutes. “Where do we come from?” And more importantly: “Where can we go next?” Starring Kealoha, Taimane, and Kauʻi Kanakaʻole. Dancers Jamie Nakama, Jory Horn and Jonathan Clarke Sypert. Music by Taimane, Quadraphonix and Makana. Original artworks by Solomon Enos.
