The Entomology collection holds large but unknown numbers of endangered, threatened and extinct species and is a critical resource for understanding the previous working of and future problems associated with the disruption of natural processes and biodiversity sustainability. This public program is inspired by the exhibit Taxonomy: Our Lives Depend On It. The exhibit is about the power and purpose of taxonomy, highlighting the legacy of Bishop Museum’s international role in naming and classifying organisms, which is foundational for documenting, researching, and ultimately saving our planet’s biodiversity and the ecosystems that we depend on for survival. Each month, we spotlight one of the Museum’s natural science collections and how each collection makes Bishop Museum a central hub for research and biodiversity in the Pacific.
See Taxonomy: Our Lives Depend On It on view in the J.M. Long Gallery through Feb. 19, 2023.
