Kick off the new year dancing the night away at our Silent Disco Under The Stars, with historic Hawaiian Hall, lit by lighting and laser effects inspired by our featured exhibit, Playing With Light, as your backdrop. Whether you’re wearing your best dancing shoes or kicking them off, join us on the dance floor to bring LIGHT and positive energy into 2024!\nSpotlight Programming\nSilent Disco Under The Stars\n6 – 9pm\nLocation: Gallery Lawns\nJoin us for a 3 channel Silent Disco Under The Stars! Guests will be provided with their own set of headphones and will have independent volume control. Dance the night away to 3 custom channels of music that you can change at your leisure, with a dedicated ʻohana-friendly channel. Featuring special guests, DJ Mermaid with musical selections inspired by our current exhibit, Project Banaba, and Aloha Got Soul’s DJ O’Spliff with a custom all-vinyl set blending selections of house, Hawaiian, funk, disco, jazz, electronic music.\nStargazing and Sky Exploration with Hawaiian Astronomical Society\n6 – 8pm\nLocation: Great Lawn\nMembers of Hawaiian Astronomical Society lead guests through explorations of our starlit sky. All ages, weather permitting.\nOngoing Offerings\n5 – 9pm\nEnjoy food and drink on the Lawn.\nPlaying With Light, featured exhibit\n5 – 9 pm – Castle Memorial Building\nTake a break from dancing under the stars with Bishop Museum’s featured exhibit Playing With Light, an exhibit that combines LIGHT, a fundamental element in our everyday lives, and PLAY, a means to ignite the imagination, in this fun exploration into light technology.\nKeiki Activities w/ Ulu Aʻe Learning Center\n5 – 7:30 p.m. – Gallery Lawn\nActivities include ʻohe kāpala (create a greeting card using stamps), kōnane (out play your opponent in a two-player strategy board game) and kiʻi pōhaku (collect the most matching petroglyphs). For ages 5-10. A parent/guardian must be present.\nLauhala Weaving w/ Keoua Nelsen\n5:30 pm – 6:30 m – Flanders Lawn\nWeave the dried leaves of the Pūhala (Pandanus) into a stunning bracelet (one per attendee). Join one of the daily public tours inside Hawaiian Hall to learn more about Bishop Museum’s history, its collections, and the living cultures of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific. Meet at the staircase in Hawaiian Hall’s front entry tower.\nPlanetarium Shows – The Hawaiian Sky Tonight\n6 pm, 6:45 pm, 7:30 pm, 8:15 pm – J. Watumull Planetarium\nEach show is 25 minutes. Tickets required; reserve at Shop Pacifica upon check in. Free for members and children under 4, $3 per person general admission. Limited seating. Learn what stars, constellations, planets, and more can be seen in the skies above Hawaiʻi the night of the show.\n
