Join us for a spectacular summer celebration of Hawaiian Hall’s three unique realms- Kai Ākea, the realm of mystic origins, Wao Kanaka, the realm of man, and Wao Lani, the heavenly realm.

New this season, we invite you to arrive early to enjoy the Museum’s galleries, musical acts, performance art, hula, food and beverage, and more prior to the main concert’s start at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Also new this season are Gourmet Picnic Baskets for Two, with your choice of entree and optional bottle of wine, available via presale.

John Cruz and Kaukahi - Saturday June 5, 2010

John CruzJohn Cruz and Kaukahi will be joined by Ledward Ka‘apana and Tau Dance Theatre. The first Hawaiian realm of Kai Ākea represents the Hawaiian gods, legends, beliefs, and the world of pre-contact Hawai‘i. Expect chant and kahiko, ocean related hula and mele throughout the evening. Samadhi Hawaii will also perform trapeze and silk numbers during the John Cruz set. June 5 is also the first day of our summer Kū exhibit – a historic collaboration between Bishop Museum, the British Museum, and the Peabody Essex Museum to present the three largest Kū images in the world together for the first time in more than 160 years.

Brothers Cazimero - Saturday July 3, 2010

Brothers CazimeroOn Saturday July 3 the Brothers Cazimero will headline and Kaumaka‘iwa Kanaka‘ole will play in support accompanied by the aerial dancing of Andrea Torres and Samadhi Hawaii, as well as Pua Ali‘i ‘Ilima, led by kumu hula Vicky Holt Takamine. Cyril Pahinui and Kaiholu will play on the Café and Courtyard stages. Wao Kanaka represents the realm where people live and work. The evening's events will focus on the importance of the land and nature in daily life: there will be a Night Arts Market featuring artisans demonstrating their skills in traditional Hawaiian crafts, and unique pieces will be on sale.

Nā Palapalai and George Kahumoku - Saturday August 7, 2010

Na PalapalaiNā Palapalai and George Kahumoku will double headline, supported by the Royal Hawaiian Band, ukulele whiz Taimane Gardner, Waipuna, the Galliard String Quartet, and Hālau Hula Ka No’eau, led by kumu hula Michael Pili Pang. The realm of Wao Lani represents the gods, the ali‘i and key moments in Hawaiian history, so the subtitle of the evening will be “The Queen’s Songbook” as classic Hawaiian songs and monarchy music ring out from all three stages. Samadhi Hawaii will bring aerial dancing to accompany the headlining Nā Palapalai.

Picnic Basket - $27.50: a gourmet dinner for two. Your choice of one entrée: roast beef sandwiches on focaccia, southern fried chicken, or sundried tomato & spinach tortilla wrappers. Also includes fresh fruits & berries, vegetable crudite w/ spinach dip, pasta provencale, fresh baked cookies, and bottled water. NO SUBSTITUTIONS OR MIXING ENTREES. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Deluxe Picnic Basket - $37.50: a gourmet dinner for two and a full bottle of wine w/ two glasses. Your choice of entrée: roast beef sandwiches on focaccia (accompanied by red wine), southern fried chicken (accompanied by white wine), or sundried tomato & spinach tortilla wrappers (accompanied by white wine). Advance tickets for each concert are $20 general admission and $15 for Bishop Museum Members and military with valid ID. General tickets purchased the day of the event will be $25. Children 3 & under are free.
