MAD ABOUT SCIENCE!

Saturday, March 31, 2007
9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Great Lawn

From earth sciences to medical sciences to out-of-this-world space sciences, kids and adults will enjoy dozens of activities to explore and discover at Bishop Museum's Mad About Science Festival. Learn about archaeology, marine biology, entomology, and other scientific areas of research.

Ever wondered what kind of bugs, bones and other science-related creatures and objects are kept behind the doors of Bishop Museum’s collections? Take a special Behind the Scenes tour and explore the natural science collection. See for yourself the types of critters that live in our own backyard.

Grab a telescope on the Great Lawn to enjoy solar viewing during the day and moon watching at night with experts from the Institute of Astronomy and the Hawaiian Astronomical Society. Connect the stars in the Watumull Planetarium and the inflatable Starlab Planetarium.

What exactly is global warming and how will it affect the way you live? Find out answers to these and other questions from biodiesel expert Kyle Datta. Kyle was trained for 2006’s documentary An Inconvenient Truth, and will shed light on the science and impacts of global warming.

Learn what it takes to make car fuel from recycled food waste from representatives of Pacific Biodiesel. In addition, the O’ahu Invasive Species Committee, the team who searches for and destroys those pesky and dangerous weeds that kill native Hawaiian plants, will be on hand at the Mad About Science Festival. Kids will also have the chance to make their own wax hand sculptures at the Wax Hand Union booth.

Admission to tours, demonstrations, and lectures is completely free with the purchase of reduced museum admission.
