Unlike many of the other seabirds found in the NWHI,
Red-footed Boobies have breeding colonies on Kaua'i and O'ahu, as well as
the NWHI. As such, it is the most frequently seen booby by people on the
Main Hawaiian Islands.
Like other boobies, it dives from great heights to try
to catch fish and squid. Unlike other boobies that lay eggs on the
ground, the Red-footed Booby will make a crudely built nest of sticks in
shrubs or trees.
With a wingspan of around 1 m (40 in) the Red-footed
Booby is the smallest booby found in Hawai'i.
