Noddies get their name from a characteristic "nodding" display during mating season.  The mating season is variable in length with egg laying between May and August.

Unlike other noddies, the Brown Noddy flies far from land in search of food.  When in the air, they fly with steady and strong flapping.

Adults wingspans range from 79-86 cm (31-34 in).
