Remarks: The largest species of
the family, the Giant Trevalley is reported to exceed 200
lbs in weight (although the world angling record is 145
lbs). Large individuals are seldom seen in the main
Hawaiian Islands, but occur in vast schools in the
Northwesterm Hawaiian Islands. Although it is highly
sought as a food fish, this species is known to have
ciguatera poisoning. The photo at right was taken by John
