Chaetodon
tinkeri
Schultz, 1951
![]() |
| Common Name: Tinker's Butterflyfish Distribution: Hawaiian, Marshall, and Cook Islands |
| Remarks: A very startling contrast to most other reef butterflyfishes, Tinker's Butterflyfish exhibits a strongly contrasting black and white pattern that may confuse predators at the depths it usually inhabits, yet still allow notice by potential mates. Whatever the case, this fish is one of the more dramatically patterned butterflyfishes of the Pacific. It was named in honor of Spencer Tinker, former director of the Waikiki Aquarium. |
