Distribution: Endemic to the Hawaiian Islands and Johnston Atoll

Remarks: This is the most abundant squirrelfish on Hawaiian coral reefs. Squirrelfishes are nocturnal; spending the daylight hours in caves and emerging at night to forage for prey.
