Currently (as of March 1998), the field camp in Camoudi and insect
laboratory at Mabura Hill are functional. All pilot studies have
been completed. The training of Guyanese staff is in progress.
Insect monitoring (i.e., insect collecting at the 250 stations)
in the unlogged plot started in September 1996 and was ended in
September 1997. Thus, we are the proud owner of one year of data
collected in the unlogged Block 17 ("Prior Logging").
Selective felling in the plot was performed in October 1997, and
insects were also collected from the crown of mature trees on
these occasions ("Logging").
We have recently re-started our insect monitoring in the logged
plot ("After Logging").
Although the taxonomic study of the material collected is not
a priority in this study (but is available for examination), a
provisory list of insect species collected on the seedlings is
detailed ("Insect Species List").
