Moving Images Collection

Making movies

Movies have been capturing views of Hawai'i and the Pacific for nearly 100 years.

In the travelogues, home movies, and commercial films in the Museum Archives you can watch early hula performers, streetcars in downtown Honolulu, and visit Waikiki as it changes from the the 1920s through the 1950s.

Over 700 titles make up the Moving Images Collection, including some of the earliest film views of Hawai'i. Video copies can be ordered and used commercially with the payment of a Use Fee and a signed Usage Rights Agreement Form.
