Hakioawa, the closest landing to Maui, has served as the focal point
of PKO (Protect Kaho‘olawe ‘Ohana) activities since the 1970s.
Many traditional ceremonial structures, still in use today, surround the
base camp, and revegetation efforts are under way in the hills above.
