Entomology Collections
Shep Myers, Collections Manager, Entomology
Aloha! My name is Shep Myers and I am the Entomology Collections Manager. Bishop Museum's Gressit Center houses some 14 million prepared specimens of insects and related arthropods, including over 16,500 primary types, making it the third largest entomology collection in the United States and the eighth largest in the world!
While global in scope, the collection’s strength lies in its unparalleled holdings of specimens from New Guinea, southeast Asia, the Philippines and Oceania. I love working here, but our team still needs additional equipment to work in the best conditions. Please fulfill one of our wishes!

- Formaspace Bench Version 3
Entomology needs a bench to provide the workstation for the new Automontage equipment awarded to the Museum through the National Science Foundation. This bench will provide the optimal working space for both stability (necessary for sensitive equipment) and efficiency, plus additional storage added above the bench.
$9300 (including shipping)
- Teclab steel wall cabinets
These cabinets will be invaluable to the Entomology Department, allowing us to move supplies off of the floor and make room for the new workbench.
$4225 (including shipping)
- Whirlpool 21.7 Cu. Ft. Chest Freezer
This freezer will be exclusively used in the Entomology collection to help control pest infestation. When specimens are transported from the first to second floor (even after a freezing cycle) there is a risk that specimens will be exposed to pests. Having a freezer in the collection will eliminate this risk and reduce the time needed to transport specimens between two floors.
