Get The Latest Sky Information At Bishop Museum

Honolulu – Find out what the stars have in store for you this year by logging on to the Bishop Museum website: www.bishopmuseum.org.  The museum’s planetarium link provides a complete astronomical forecast for 2010.  For direct access, visit: http://www.bishopmuseum.org/planetarium/planetarium.html

Every year, Bishop Museum’s Jhamandas Watamull Planetarium provides a calendar of astronomical events specifically for Hawai‘i’s location and time zone.  In addition to providing sky information, the website also provides information on the July 11, 2010 total solar eclipse that will take place over south Polynesia, specifically Easter Island and certain parts of the Tuamotu and Cook Islands.  While this eclipse will not be visible from the Hawaiian Islands, it will be a significant event.

If you’d like to attend programs that are focused on the sky, the Bishop Museum Planetarium offers the following programs with admission:

11:30 a.m. The Sky Tonight

1:30 p.m.  Explorers of Polynesia

3:30 p.m.  Astronomy of Galileo

For more information about all of this year’s astronomical events or planetarium programs, please contact Mike Shanahan at 847-8235 or mikes@bishopmuseum.org.

Bishop Museum is dedicated to studying, preserving, and telling the stories of the cultures and natural history of Hawai‘i and the Pacific.  Museum hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; it is closed on Tuesdays.
