Apply Now To Be A Bishop Museum Docent
Bishop Museum is offering a new round of docent classes that begin later this month for interested volunteers. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn more about Hawaiian history and culture, while sharing the experience of the newly restored Hawaiian Hall.
The upcoming docent class begins September 22nd and ends on October 29th. The five week course is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Following the class, docents will work with Bishop Museum’s Education Volunteer Coordinator, Kawehi Brandow.
Deborah Okamura, a new docent at Bishop Museum, stated, “I have found an exciting and fun way to give back to the community and at the same time, I receive so much joy. An extra benefit is seeing friends, classmates, and neighbors who I haven’t seen in a while and telling them about the Museum’s amazing artifacts.”
Okamura was one of about two dozen volunteers who underwent docent training prior to last month’s reopening of Hawaiian Hall.
To apply for this upcoming docent class, please contact Kawehi Brandow at 847-8239 or by email at kawehi@bishopmuseum.org. To learn more about Bishop Museum, please visit www.bishopmuseum.org.
