Annual Dinner Offers Rare Auction Items And Recognizes Two Civic Leaders

Honolulu, HI – One-of-a-kind replicas of three extraordinary items will be available for auction at the 11th Annual Bernice Pauahi Bishop Awards Dinner that takes place on Saturday, July 11th from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Bishop Museum’s Great Lawn. 

This year’s event honors David Hulihe‘e and Roy Yamaguchi for their outstanding leadership and support of Bishop Museum.  Hulihe‘e is the Chairman & CEO of Grace Pacific Corporation and President of Royal Contracting Company, Ltd.  He is a former chairman of the Bishop Museum Board of Directors.  Hulihe‘e will receive the Charles Reed Bishop Medal, an award that exemplifies the spirit of Mr. Bishop’s philanthropic vision.

Roy Yamaguchi will be awarded the Robert J. Pfeiffer Medal for his devotion to civic leadership.  Yamaguchi is the Executive Chef and Founder of Roy’s Restaurants, which comprises 35 locations across the country, Japan, and Guam.  

This fundraising dinner will allow guests to bid on replicas of unique items from Bishop Museum’s collection.  These items include:  a lei hulu manu made in wili poepoe style (feather lei) crafted by Paulette Kahalepuna and based on an original owned by Princess Kai‘ulani; a framed giclée of The Beach of Waikiki, ca. 1896 based on an oil painting on canvas by D. Howard Hitchcock (1863-1943); and a replica of Queen Kapi‘olani’s diamond and ruby butterfly brooch crafted by the jewelers at The Wedding Ring Shop.  To view images of these items, please visit http://www.bishopmuseum.org/membership/events.html.

Guests chefs serving at the event are:  Alan Wong, Alan Wong’s; Rodney Uyehara, Beach House; DK Kodama, D.K. Steak House; Vickram Garg, Halekulani; Hiroshi Fukui, Hiroshi Eurasian Tapas; Peter Merriman & Neil Murphy, Merriman’s; Dean Okimoto, Nalo Farms; Lindsey Ozawa, Nobu Waikiki; Eric Leterc, The Pacific Club; Ronnie Nasuti, Roy’s; and Ed Kenny, Town.
