Last Chance to Animate at Bishop Museum

Only a few days are left before the popular, interactive, traveling exhibit, Animation ends its run at Bishop Museum.  The last day to catch Animation is on Monday, May 25th.  In Animation’s stimulating and fun environment, visitors explore animation from concept to finished product — from storyboarding, character design, and drawing techniques to movement, timing, filming, and sound.

Animation was created by the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) in Portland, Oregon, in collaboration with The Cartoon Network.

The public may want to take advantage of visiting Animation this weekend when Bishop Museum hosts the Native Hawaiian Arts Market & Keiki Festival on May 23rd and 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This festival celebrates Maoli Arts Month (MAMo) and there is a reduced admission rate of $3.00 for kama‘āina and military.  (Please note that the Native Hawaiian Arts Market, and the reduced rates for kama‘āina and military, only apply on Saturday and Sunday May 23-24.)

Following Animation’s departure, Bishop Museum will prepare for its next traveling exhibit, Backyard Monsters.  This exhibit features six animatronic insects, including a twelve-foot tarantula, and a tomato caterpillar that towers eleven feet about the visitors. Backyard Monsters opens to the public on Saturday, June 13th and runs through September 7, 2009.

Bishop Museum is closed on Tuesdays and Christmas Day.  For more information about Bishop Museum and all of its programs, exhibits, and events, please visit www.bishopmuseum.org or call (808) 847-3511.
