Get Ready For This Year’s Native Hawaiian Arts Market And Keiki Art Festival

In celebration of Maoli Arts Month (MAMo), Bishop Museum will once again host the Native Hawaiian Arts Market & Keiki Festival on May 23rd and 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This is the festival’s fourth year and there is a reduced admission rate of $3.00 for kama‘āina and military.

The festival is co-sponsored by Bishop Museum and PA‘I Foundation.  This family-fun event features more than 35 native Hawaiian artists, from traditional featherwork and weaponry to contemporary fiber and painting.  There will be art demonstrations and lots of activities for the keiki.

Bishop Museum project manager, Noelle Kahanu, said, “One of the best parts of the Arts Market is that people get to meet the artists.  They can talk to them about what inspires them, about why they do what they do.”

The weekend will also be filled with workshops, arts and crafts for all ages, food, and outstanding entertainment.  Admission includes access to Bishop Museum’s galleries including the new MAMo Awards exhibit in the J.M. Long Gallery, which features the work of 18 of the top Native Hawaiian artists of today.

MAMo is a broad community-based effort to celebrate the depth, breadth, and diversity of the native Hawaiian arts community, to create economic opportunities for artists and cultural practitioners, and to educate the community about Native Hawaiian art.  To learn more, please visit www.maoliartsmonth.org.
