Bishop Museum “Salutes The Troops” On May 2nd
In appreciation of our military forces, Bishop Museum presents a festival that salutes the troops, on May 2, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with FREE admission. Kama‘āina families will be offered a special $3 admission rate. Regular rates apply for all other visitors.
Bishop Museum Salutes the Troops will include a day filled with Hawaiian culture and tradition that includes live entertainment, artisans and crafters, games, keiki activities, hula performances and demonstrations of lua, the art of the Hawaiian warrior. In addition to access to all of Bishop Museum’s galleries and exhibits there will be behind-the-scenes tours of Cultural Collections.
President & CEO, Timothy Johns said, “The sacrifices made by our military families are great. This is just one way to show our appreciation for those sacrifices and we welcome our military families to come down to Bishop Museum to learn more about Hawaiian culture and to enjoy all of the activities being offered.”
U.S. Army Infantry Cpt. Nic Iorio, who volunteers at Bishop Museum, is helping to organize some of the behind-the-scenes tours for military families.
“The military community is always thankful when civilian organizations invite us to their functions and I know that I speak for everyone in my unit when I say thank you,” said Cpt. Iorio.
Bishop Museum Salutes the Troops is sponsored in part by BAE Systems Hawai‘i, JN Automotive Group and Seven-Eleven Hawaii.
Military and kama‘āina receive discounted admission rates to the Museum throughout the year. For more information, please visit www.bishopmuseum.org or call 847-3511.
