Track Your Carbon Footprint At Bishop Museum And Learn More About Earth Hour

Climate Change is one of the most serious problems facing our world today.  On Saturday, March 28th, millions of people across the globe will turn off their lights for one hour.  Bishop Museum is also participating in the global effort by going dark in honor of the Earth, which takes place in Hawai‘i this Saturday from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  During that time Bishop Museum will turn off all non-essential lights.

In hopes of spreading the word about this important event, Bishop Museum is providing information on its website at www.bishopmuseum.org where visitors will learn what they can do to participate and find related links.  Bishop Museum has already enlisted the commitment of its more than 200 employees to go dark during Earth Hour along with its members, which total 8300 households.

“For the past several months, Bishop Museum staff has worked to lower our energy costs and in the process we are more aware of our carbon footprint,” said Timothy Johns, President & CEO.  “Earth Hour is one more step to not only save energy but to work together in taking care of our home – our Earth.”

In the Science On A Sphere exhibit at Bishop Museum, visitors can view a six-foot globe to learn about the effects of Climate Change and Global Warming, and have a chance to calculate their carbon footprint.  Science On A Sphere shows are provided daily at the Museum at 2:30 p.m. in the J. Watumull Planetarium Lobby.  Find out more about this educational exhibit at http://www.bishopmuseum.org/planetarium/sos.html.

Museum hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.  It is closed on Christmas Day.  To learn more about all of Bishop Museum’s exhibits, programs, and activities, please visit www.bishopmuseum.org or call (808) 847-3511.
