Stanford University Chamber Chorale To Perform At Bishop Museum
Honolulu, HI – The Stanford University Chamber Chorale will perform at Bishop Museum on Monday, March 23rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Atrium Courtyard. The half-hour concert will feature repertoire from British, American, folk music, Samoan, Maori, and Hawaiian choral traditions.
The Stanford chorale will perform under the direction of conductor Dr. Stephen Sano. Aside from being a gifted conductor, Dr. Sano has won numerous piano competitions and is also a slack key artist, which has earned him nominations for the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award. His most recent release, Songs from the Taro Patch, was on the preliminary ballot for the 2008 Grammy Award.
“Our tours to the Islands have grown out of my passion for Hawaiian music and culture that has been nourished by the sharing community of musicians in Hawai‘i with whom I’ve had the great honor to associate,” said Dr. Sano. “These opportunities allow the Chorale not only to share their talents as a performing ensemble, but to learn about, and experience Hawaiian culture in a way that is impossible on the continent.”
Bishop Museum President & CEO Timothy Johns said, “Dr. Sano is a highly respected conductor. We look forward to welcoming him and the Stanford Chamber Chorale to Bishop Museum and especially look forward to hearing their Hawaiian and Polynesian repertoire.”
The concert is free to public after paid admission to Bishop Museum. For more information please contact (808) 847-3511 or visit www.bishopmuseum.org.
