This Spring Break Bishop Museum Offers Digital Animation Academy For Teens

Honolulu, HI - Bishop Museum is now accepting registration for its Digital Animation Academy, a one-week course for students ages 12 through 16.  The course runs from Monday, March 23rd to Friday, March 27th from 8:00 a.m. to 12noon.

The Digital Animation Academy is being offered in conjunction with Bishop Museum’s latest exhibit, Animation.  In Animation’s stimulating and fun environment, visitors explore animation from concept to finished product — from storyboarding, character design, and drawing techniques to movement, timing, filming, and sound.

The Digital Animation Academy week-course is presented in conjunction with Computer-Aided Technologies International, Inc.  It offers lessons in Autodesk Maya, the industry-standard 3D animation software that is used in film, television, and video games.  Familiarity with the Windows operating system is strongly recommended and experience with Photoshop is preferred.

Tuition for this one-of-a-kind course is $150.  Bishop Museum Members’ cost for tuition is $125.  Registration deadline is March 16; to register or for more information, please call 847-8296 or email trey.dodge@bishopmuseum.org

The exhibit, Animation, opens to the public on Saturday, February 14th and remains on display in the Castle Memorial Building till May 10, 2009.  It explores the history of animation and features a variety of hands-on displays.  Regular admission rates apply except for Animation Family Sunday, March 22nd, when rates are $3 for kama’āina and military.
