Holoholo Science Continues Program Success
Next Stop: Lāna‘i

Honolulu – Bishop Museum Science Educators will take their Holoholo Science program to Lāna‘i next week bringing hands-on science activities and sessions to Lāna‘i High and Elementary School.

Last month, Holoholo Science served over 1800 students and family members on the island of Kaua‘i.  The team visited six schools, over 80% of the programming was brought to Title I schools.  In November, Holoholo Science visited six Maui schools, reaching out to over 1000 students and family members– 80% of which were Title I schools.

Holoholo Science will be on Lana‘i from February 9th – 13th; it heads to Hawai‘i Island schools in March.

Holoholo Science brings rare learning opportunities to the classroom that include the handling of scientific specimens, artifacts, and state-of-the-art science equipment.  Programs are being made possible through the funding support of G.N. Wilcox Trust, HMSA Foundation, and the Lanai Community Benefit Fund.  Other sponsors include Island Air, Young Brothers Limited, and the Kaua‘i Economic Development Board.

This project is an initiative under the Office of Innovation and Improvement of the U.S. Department of Education.  Education through Cultural & Historical Organizations, also known ECHO, provides educational enrichment to children and lifelong learners.

The Holoholo Science team visits neighbor island schools each year.  The team builds its sessions to support student achievement in national and state content and performance standards to help improve test scores.  Programs vary in cost with discounted prices for Title 1 schools.  There are a wide-range of programs offered including ecology, geology, biology, space science and astronomy, anthropology, health, and medicine.  For information on specific programs, please visit http://www.bishopmuseum.org/education or email holoholo@bishopmuseum.org; or call (808) 847-3511.
