Na Hōkū Hanohano award-winners, the Mākaha Sons, will headline the August 16 Moonlight Mele concert presented by Bank of Hawaii on the Great Lawn at Bishop Museum at 7 p.m. (gates open at 6 p.m. ). Get ready for a magical night of traditional Hawaiian mele. This is the last concert of the popular summer series.
Bank of Hawaii’s popular Moonlight Mele on the Great Lawn at Bishop Museum is a three-part series of Hawaiian music concertprograms for the summer of 2007. The August 16 concert is the last concert of the 2007 summer season. The concert series is supported in part by Aloha Airlines, Better Brands, and Hawaiian 105 KINE. Tickets are now on sale at the Bishop Museum box office daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; or at Honolulu Box Office, (808) 550-TIKS (8457); online at www.honoluluboxoffice.com; or in person at 1188 Bishop Street, Suite 609. Tickets for Military and their families are also available at the MWR ticket offices on O‘ahu military bases.
The Mākaha Sons recently won best music video DVD of the year at the Na Hōkū Hanohano Awards presentation. For more than 30 years, the Mākaha Sons have been celebrated for their incomparable vocal arrangements and delightful, comic-filled stage antics. Their vibrant sound full of rich harmonies earned them a loyal fan following in Hawai‘i and around the world. Moon Kuakahi, and John and Jerome Koko have released 21 CDs and formed a foundation to support a new generation of young Hawaiian artists.
Come early to stake out your place on the Great Lawn in front of historic Hawaiian Hall. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for Museum members and 6 p.m. for general admission. Concerts begin at 7 p.m. ) Local eateries will be providing an array of food and beverages selections available for purchase. (No coolers and no outside food and beverages are allowed.) Pre-concert programming will include ola (storytelling) presentations by Bishop Museum cultural educators, prize giveaways including free air trips on Aloha Airlines, and other surprises.
Advance tickets for single concerts are $17.50 General admission; $12.50 for Bishop Museum members, Active and Retired Military and their families with ID; $10 for Bank of Hawaii customers and employees with ID; Children 4-12 are $10 (children 3 and under are free). Buy early--tickets at the door on the night of the concert are $20 General Admission; $12.50 Members with membership card and Military with ID; $10 Bank of Hawaii customers with bank statement or check stub and Bank of Hawaii employees with employee ID; $10 Children 4-12; Children 3 and under are free.

Only low-height (12-inches and under) sand chairs are permitted on the Great Lawn as well as blankets and beach mats. (A hand-held umbrella is always good to have on hand for the occasional light mauka showers This is the last Moonlight Mele concert date for summer 2007. Mark your calendars! Pack your low-height sand chairs or bring a blanket or a beach mat and enjoy Hawaiian music under the stars. Local eateries will provide a variety of food and beverages for purchase. Only sand chairs under 12-inches high are allowed. Hand-held umbrellas are encouraged for the occasional mauka showers. Participating sponsors include Aloha Airlines, The Honolulu Advertiser, Better Brands, and Hawaiian 105 KINE. Pre-concert activities include ola (storytelling) presentations by Bishop Museum cultural educators, prize giveaways including free air trips by Aloha Airlines, and other surprises.
