Roger G. Rose , PhD Harvard University , is the former curator of Ethnology and Hawaiian Historical Collections at Bishop Museum (1971 – 1999). A Museum Affiliate and advisor to the Hawaiian Hall restoration project, Dr. Rose is currently engaged in private consultation.
Bishop Museum ’s collection of 12 Hawaiian feather cloaks is unrivaled. Learn about the history of Bishop Museum ’s collection and the significance of these magnificent feather cloaks.
This presentation is co-sponsored by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and Bishop Museum as part of a grant to conserve and display Hawaiian feather cloaks. Funding for this project also supports a training program for two graduate student interns, Aimee Ducey ( New York University ) and Beth Nunan ( Buffalo State University ) who are enrolled in advanced conservation training programs. Their curriculum includes lectures and workshops on Hawaiian history, culture and values.
