BISHOP MUSEUM PRESS BOOK SIGNING WITH NĀ ‘ŌLOHE LUA

HONOLULU - WHAT: Looking for that unique gift for the warrior in your life? Bishop Museum Press has the answer! Lua: Art of the Hawaiian Warrior is the landmark publication that explores the ancient Hawaiian art of combat, known as lua, and the intricate role it played in Hawaiian history. Come and meet the authors and nā ‘ōlohe lua (lua masters) Richard Paglinawan, Mitchell Eli, Moses Kalauokalani and Jerry Walker as they sign copies of this new release and offer insight into the traditional art form. Lua explores history, philosophy, techniques, weapons, attire, and current training practices, and includes over 120 line art drawings, photos of weapons, and additional artwork on the historical and cultural aspects of lua. Just in time for the holidays, a beautifully-crafted slipcase edition of the book will also be available featuring a signed woodblock print by Volcano artist Dietrich Varez created especially for this printing. But hurry, only 500 copies of this special collector’s edition have been printed!

Founded in 1892, Bishop Museum Press is the oldest continuous publisher of books in Hawai‘i, and one of the first scholarly presses in the Western Hemisphere . Proceeds from sales of Bishop Museum Press books further the Museum’s efforts in research, education and collections care.
