BISHOP MUSEUM’S HOLOHOLO SCIENCE PROGRAM TOURS BIG ISLAND IN FEBRUARY
HONOLULU – In February, Bishop Museum’s Holoholo Science Program will tour the Big Island of Hawai‘i, bringing the wonders of science and culture to the island’s keiki. The Holoholo Science Program is an outreach program serving grades K-12 that brings standards-based, hands-on programs to schools throughout the state.
The Big Island tour will kick off with a display at the 2006 Astronaut Ellison Onizuka Science Day on Saturday, January 28 at the University of Hawai‘i – Hilo campus. Then the Holoholo Science Program will tour the island from February 1 through the 11, with stops at Kealakehe Elementary, Intermediate and High School, Holualoa Elementary, Kohala, Kā‘ū High School, Keonepoko Elementary, Mt. View Elementary, and Pahoa Elementary and High School.
Presented by Bishop Museum’s dynamic science educators and scientists, the Holoholo Science Program encourages inquiry and exploration, and offers the rare chance to handle scientific specimens, cultural artifacts, and state-of-the-art equipment. In addition, it allows students to interact with scientists who are actively involved in the research areas of biology, ecology, geology, archaeology and other such fields.
Holoholo Science programs excite the imagination and create opportunities for kids to discover more about the world of science through exciting science lessons, interactive large-group programs, live presentations in an inflatable planetarium dome, or an evening of fun, educational hands-on activities held for students and their families.
