AMY GREENWELL ETHNOBOTANICAL GARDEN OFFERS LAUHALA WEAVING WORKSHOP ON AUGUST 17

HONOLULU – Introducing visitors and residents to one of Hawai‘i’s most cherished art forms, Bishop Museum’s Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden in Kona welcomes acclaimed lauhala weaver Auntie Alice Kawamoto for a special lauhala workshop on Wednesday, August 17, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Auntie Alice is a kumu for Ka Ulu Lauhala Association and an important community resource. The workshop is ideal for novices just learning the traditional Hawaiian art of weaving.

To register for the workshop, call (808) 323-3318. The workshop fee, which includes a lauhala kit, is $15 or $5 for Bishop Museum members.

The Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden is a Bishop Museum facility, located in South Kona on the Mamalahoa Highway. During the year, more than 9,000 visitors experience the Garden and explore the plants of traditional Kona. The Garden is a regular stop for school tours, and people of all ages enjoy workshops on traditional Hawaiian arts. Admission is a suggested donation of $4 per person and free for Bishop Museum members. For more information, call (808) 323-3318.
