BISHOP MUSEUM PRESS MAKES WAVES WITH THE INDESTRUCTABLE SQUARE RIGGER, FALLS OF CLYDE: 324 VOYAGES UNDER SAIL

HONOLULU – One Hawai‘i ’s most respected maritime historians and Honolulu Advertiser columnist Bob Krauss has released “The Indestructible Square Rigger, Falls of Clyde: 324 Voyages Under Sail” with the Bishop Museum Press. Cover to cover, Krauss depicts the stories of sailors and passengers who journeyed on numerous voyages under the sails of one of Hawai‘i ’s oldest resident ships, the Falls of Clyde. Starting December 10, 2004 the softcover book will be on sale for $16.95 at Bishop Museum’s Shop Pacifica and bookstores statewide.

The Falls of Clyde is currently docked at the Hawai‘i Maritime Center, the sister facility to Bishop Museum. An integral part of Hawai‘i ’s maritime history, the 125 year-old vessel is the world’s only surviving four-masted full-rigged ship. It is also the only surviving sail-driven oil tanker and the only surviving original member of the Matson Fleet. “The Indestructible Square Rigger, Falls of Clyde” takes readers on a voyage around the globe as Clyde finds her way home to Hawai‘i.

Krauss considers himself one of the keepers of Honolulu's identity. He's written millions of words over 51 years as an author and columnist for The Honolulu Advertiser and is passionate about historic Honolulu harbor – its history and its future.

Founded in 1892, Bishop Museum Press is the oldest continuous publisher of books in Hawai‘i, and one of the first scholarly presses in the Western Hemisphere. Proceeds from sales of Bishop Museum Press books further the Museum’s efforts in research, education and collections care.
