BISHOP MUSEUM EXPLORES TRADITIONS OF THE PACIFIC THROUGH NEW QUARTERLY SERIES

HONOLULU - Bishop Museum has introduced a new quarterly program featuring presentations, artifacts, and demonstrations surrounding the cultural heritage of Hawai‘i, Asia, and the Pacific. Called Traditions of the Pacific, the two-day program features an evening presentation by a panel of speakers at Bishop Museum, followed by a hands-on workshop, demonstration, or field trip.

The theme for 2004-2005 is Oceans, and the series will launch with a special presentation and demonstration by Bishop Museum Anthropologist Dr. Yoshihiko Sinoto on Wednesday, November 17. Dr. Sinoto will discuss fishhook varieties used in Hawai‘i and the Pacific, and showcase fishhooks from his private collection as well as Bishop Museum’s collection. The program continues on Saturday, November 20 with a fishhook-making workshop in Bishop Museum’s Canoe Hale.
