BISHOP MUSEUM PRESENTS WORKSHOPS WITH ARTIST ROCKY JENSEN AND DAUGHTER NATALIE MAHINA JENSEN
HONOLULU - To mark the final weekend of Bishop Museum's Ho'oilina; Birthright exhibition, featured exhibit artists Rocky Jensen and daughter Natalie Mahina Jensen will present two workshops.
On November 27, 2004 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Ms. Jensen will lead a hand kāhili-making workshop. The workshop fee is $60 for members, $70 for nonmembers and includes all materials. On November 27-28, 2004 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mr. Jensen will present a two-day woodcarving workshop. The workshop fee is $40 for members, $50 for nonmembers and includes all materials. Previous carving experience is preferred. Both workshops will be held at Bishop Museum. For reservations and information, call 848-4190.
Ho'oilina; Birthright honors the benchmark contributions made by Rocky Jensen and the artistic legacy being carried forward by his family. In addition to a dozen contemporary Hawaiian carvings by Jensen, the exhibit showcases photographs by daughter Natalie Mahina Jensen and pen & ink vignettes by son Frank Jensen. The exhibition runs through November 28, 2004. Ho`oilina; Birthright was developed by Hale Naua III, Society of Hawaiian Arts, in celebration of the organization’s 30th anniversary.
A treasured resource of Hawaiian history and heritage, Bishop Museum was founded in 1889 by Charles Reed Bishop as a tribute to his wife Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the last descendant of the royal Kamehameha dynasty.
