BISHOP MUSEUM APPOINTS ALISTAIR RAMSDALE ENTOMOLOGY COLLECTIONS MANAGER
HONOLULU - Bishop Museum has named Alistair Ramsdale its entomology collections manager. He will be responsible for the Museum’s insect collection, which consists of nearly 14 million specimens, most from Hawai‘i , Oceania, Papua New Guinea and South East Asia. It is the third largest collection in the USA. His responsibilities include the care of the collection, the loan of its specimens, and the supervision of visiting researchers who travel from around the world to study the Museum’s entomology collection.

Prior to joining Bishop Museum, Ramsdale worked as an associate research assistant and curator at the Montana Entomology Collection, Department of Entomology, Montana State University. He was also a contract curator for the National Museum of National History, Smithsonian Institution. Ramsdale pursued his doctoral research in biology at Montana State University after receiving his master’s in entomology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Ramsdale has also authored several notable publications, including two chapters in the book American Beetles, Volume 2.

A treasured resource of Hawaiian history and heritage, Bishop Museum was founded in 1889 by Charles Reed Bishop as a tribute to his wife Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the last descendant of the royal Kamehameha dynasty. Located at 1525 Bernice Street, the Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $14.95 for adults; $11.95 for youth 4-12 years; special rates for kama‘āina, seniors and military; children under 4 years and Bishop Museum Association members are free.
