Bert A. Kobayashi received the Charles Reed Bishop Medal and J.W.A. “Doc” Buyers received the Robert J. Pfeiffer Medal.
Celebrating Bernice Pauahi Bishop and her legacy through Bishop Museum, the awards dinner featured a gourmet sit down dinner, elaborate silent auction, entertainment, awards program, diamond ring giveaway, and the unveiling of treasured items from Pauahi’s personal collection.
The first Bernice Pauahi Bishop Awards dinner was held in 1998, and since then has continued to celebrate community members who have made life-long commitments to Hawai‘i and its people. The Charles Reed Bishop Medal honors individuals who exemplify the spirit and purpose of the Museum’s founder while the Robert J. Pfeiffer Medal honors those who are dedicated to the advancement and perpetuation of Hawai‘i ’s rich maritime heritage.
