Botany Technician

Job Description:
Bishop Museum is seeking a highly motivated technician to assist with the databasing, imaging, and processing of plant specimens in the Herbarium Pacificum.

Duration:
1560 hours, hourly hire, beginning May 1, 2011.

Education, knowledge & skills:

· Undergraduate student or recently graduated student enrolling in a graduate degree, in botany, environmental science, biology, or closely related field (essential).

· A class in plant taxonomy and/or phycology (algae) (essential).

· Computer skills (data basing, word-processing) experience (essential).

· Ability to read, write, and type accurately and efficiently (essential).

· Ability to work with minimal supervision on often monotonous tasks (essential).

· Ability to prioritize tasks and follow-through until completed (essential).

· Ability to work effectively as part of a team (essential).

· Ability to follow and read/comprehend detailed instructions (essential).

· Experience with digital imaging (preferred).

· Experience in herbarium collections management (preferred).

Other requirements:

· Professional, business-like appearance.

· Good attendance.

· Detail-oriented.
