Botany Internship NSF BRC at Bishop Museum
Job Description:
Bishop Museum is seeking a motivated college-level intern to assist with the databasing, imaging, filing, and processing of specimen collections from Hawaii and the Pacific region housed in the Herbarium Pacificum. This is part of an NSF-funded project collaborating with the University of Hawaii and National Tropical Botanical Gardens to establish the Consortium of Pacific Herbaria.
Duration:
400 hrs casual hire, beginning August 22, 2011
Education, knowledge & skills:
· High school diploma; undergraduate student, or recently graduated student enrolling in a graduate degree, in botany, environmental science, biology, or related field (essential).
Computer (data basing, word-processing) experience (essential).
· Ability to read, write, and type accurately and efficiently (essential).
· Experience with digital imaging (preferred).
· Experience in herbarium collections management (preferred).
· Ability to work with minimum amount of supervision on often monotonous tasks.
· Ability to prioritize tasks and follow-through until completed.
· Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
· Ability to follow and read/comprehend detailed instructions.
· Interest in plant taxonomy or museum studies desirable.
