Audio Visual Assistant (Casual)
JOB SUMMARY
Provide audiovisual support for Museum events. This includes setting up sound systems; setting up video (“LCD”) projector systems; meeting facility rental clients and making sure that their audiovisual requirements are met.
MAJOR DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Note: this is casual position, primarily in the afternoon and evening, including weekends. The work level varies significantly from week to week based on facility rental bookings and in-house needs.
- 1. Set up audio systems at Bishop Museum. This includes setting up microphones, turning on audio boards and setting volumes to proper levels, troubleshooting any problems with sound. This also entails setting up portable sound systems for events, including mounting speakers on eight-foot high stands, connecting audio controls to speakers, setting levels.
- 2. Set up visual systems at Bishop Museum. This includes setting up video projectors (“LCD” projectors) and connecting them to Museum laptops and lap tops of museum customers. Troubleshoot projection systems to ensure that the programs will work smoothly for customers.
- 3. Responsible for live sound mixing for musical acts with monitors mixed as well.
- 4. Meet customers (groups renting the facility, evening lecturers, etc.) as they arrive and make sure that their audiovisual needs are met.
- 5. Remain present for presentations (lectures, musical performances, video presentations) to make sure that all audiovisual elements are functioning properly.
- 6. Break down equipment at end of the evening or end of the event.
- 7. Turn Bishop Museum exhibits on and off as needed for evening clients.
- 8. Perform other duties as required to meet Museum goals.
- 9. Interact with staff, museum clients, contractors, and others with tact, courtesy, and unqualified respect at all times. Stay motivated and project a positive and professional attitude toward fellow workers and clients.
- 10. Work in a safe manner so as not to endanger fellow staff members, volunteers, and visitors. Comply with safety rules and regulations and establishes safe work practices. Read all safety materials received. Report unsafe conditions and unsafe acts directly to supervisor. Promptly report accidents to immediate supervisor. Maintain assigned work area and equipment freed of accident producing conditions. Be able to turn on and off traveling exhibits as well as other equipment on campus to include SAC, Hawaiian Hall, etc and trouble-shoot as needed or necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge:
- Must have at least one year’s experience in audiovisual tech support
- Must be fully computer literate, with demonstrated ability to set up sound systems, connect lap tops to LCD projectors, and troubleshoot problems.
