SUMMARY OF BENEFITS

The following summaries do not provide details, technical and/or exhaustive explanations of the benefits available. The summaries are merely intended to provide general descriptions of some of the more important features of the various benefits. Employee benefits are subject to modification, change and/or discontinuation at any time, with or without notice.

Benefit hours are generally paid to an eligible employee according to their employment status, (i.e. RFTH – Regular Full-time Hourly, RFTS – Regular Full-time Salary, RPTH - Regular Part-time Hourly, or RPTS – Regular Part-time Salary). Part-time employees are eligible for all benefits except the group term life insurance and long-term disability insurance. Casual employees may be eligible for health insurance if they meet the eligibility requirements and are eligible for the “Other benefits”, listed at the end of this document.

Medical/Drug/Vision/Dental

Employees working 20 or more hours/week for 4 consecutive weeks are eligible to join the group health plans. Coverage begins the first of the month after the employee has made the eligibility requirement. The Museum offers HMSA PPP Plan A, HMSA Comp Med, HMSA HPH and Kaiser. Dental is through HMSA Dental.

The employee contributes 1.5% of their gross pay towards the medical premium for a single coverage. The Museum pays the balance of the medical premium. For employees who enroll their qualifying dependents in the plan, the Museum pays 50% of the dependent portion of the medical premium. The employee contributes 1.5% of their gross plus the other 50% of the medical premium. Employees pay for the dental premium. Premiums are deducted on a pre-tax basis unless otherwise specified by the employee.

Holidays

The Museum recognizes 10 holidays per year. The 9 scheduled holidays are New Years, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Kamehameha Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas. The 10 th day is a floating holiday. Employees must have completed their introductory period to use the floating holiday and the holiday must be used within the calendar year.

Vacation

Vacation hours are earned per pay period. Employees are eligible to use vacation time after completing their introductory period of 90 days. The vacation earning schedule equates to the following:

1-2 years of service 10 days vacation

3-6 years of service 15 days vacation

7-12 years of service 20 days vacation

13-16 years of service 25 days vacation

16+ years of service 30 days vacation

Sick Leave

Sick leave hours are earned per pay period. Hours earned equate to 12 days per year; employees may accrue up to 480 hours.

Jury Duty

Employees who have completed 6 months of service are eligible for jury duty pay. With certification, the Museum will compensate the employee for up to 20 work days of jury duty.

Military Leave

The Museum complies with federal and state provisions for military leave.

Bereavement Leave

Employees, who have completed their introductory period, are granted up to three paid work days in the event of the death of an immediate family member.

Group Term Life Insurance

The Museum provides regular full time employees with term life and accidental death & dismemberment coverage after completion of their introductory period. Coverage is one times the annual salary up to a maximum of $50,000.

Group Long Term Disability Insurance

Regular full time salaried employees are eligible upon hire and Regular full time hourly employees are eligible after completing 12 full months of service. The amount of coverage is based on 66 2/3% of the monthly gross wage up to a maximum of $3000. There is a waiting period of 180 days for LTD and the disability must be certified by a physician.

Defined Benefit Pension Plan

Employees working at least 1000 hours per calendar year are automatically enrolled in the Museum’s non-contributory defined benefit pension plan. Participants are eligible for pension at age 65, or eligible for a reduced pension at age 55, after meeting the vesting requirement of 5 years of active service.

403(b)

Employees have the option of enrolling in a non-contributory 403(b) plan. This provides the employee the opportunity to save towards retirement on a pre-tax basis.

Cafeteria Plan

Employees may opt to enroll in pre-tax savings plans for medical or dependent care expenses.

Other benefits

Employees of the Bishop Museum are eligible to join any of the following Federal Credit Unions: Kamehameha FCU, HawaiiUSA FCU, and Aloha Pacific FCU (fka Honolulu City and County Employees FCU)

Free admission to the Museum for the employee and up to 4 guests per month (Note: this benefit will be changing. The employee will receive single/family membership to the Museum)

20% discount in the Museum retail shop

Special discounts on Museum-sponsored events

Use of the Library’s general collection of periodicals and books (materials may not be removed from campus)

10% discount in the Museum’s Café
