Scientific Name: Tramea abdominalis

How It Came To Hawai‘i :

This dragonfly is naturally found from Argentina to Florida. It was first observed in Hawai‘i in 1977.

Impact Since Its Arrival:

The Vermilion Glider is found mainly along marshes and streams at lower elevations. It has caused little harm to the Hawaiian stream ecosystem.

Dragonflies Captivate Young and Old Alike

They dart about, pause for a moment, then quickly disappear. Their bodies seem to be motionless. Their wings move so fast, they are barely visible. A magical flying dragon!
