Also Known As: Taape (Tahitian) Blue-lined snapper

How It Came To Hawai‘i :

Taape were introduced to Hawaiian waters in the 1950s for the purpose of adding to deep-water fisheries.

Impact Since Its Arrival:

Taape have multiplied and spread throughout our Hawaiian waters. Their introduction has not been beneficial to the Islands. They are thought to be carnivorous, and threaten other fish and some crustaceans favored by Hawai‘i fisherman. Taape are very unpopular.
