Three Kinds of Eleutherodactylus
in Hawai‘i

Three species of Eleutherodactylus now live in the Islands. All of them lay their eggs in loose soil and leaf litter. Eggs hatch in 2-3 weeks and froglets emerge. Since there is no tadpole stage for this frog, it is easily transported in potted plants.

Eleutherodactylus planirostris

  • From Cuba, the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands.
  • Now found on O‘ahu and the island of Hawai‘i .
  • Grows to 1.5 inches.
