Centerpiece of the
Backyard Aliens Exhibit

In our exhibit we have a diarama of a typical backyard, populated with various plants and animals. Most of the specimens are aliens, but we've hidden two natives into the scene. Two computers are in the front of the diarama running a Custom Designed Interactive Program that lets you move your mouse over a specimen, and learn if it is an alien or native. Some of the instructional text follows:

You may be surprised to learn that most of the animals and plants in Hawai‘i are actually ALIENS. Humans have brought them here from other parts of the world. They are not native to Hawai‘i .

Can you spot the aliens in this typical backyard?

Some are easy to spot. The Jackson's Chameleons coming out from the flying saucer are "aliens" that arrived recently. The Brown Tree Snake in the flying saucer overhead is an "alien" that is threatening to invade Hawai‘i .
